When I was young, my summer time was spent sitting beside bags crammed with library books I’d carried home by bus.

Both summer leisure and school labour were always filled with invigorating thoughts and ideas found in books.

I clearly remember the first book I ever read all by myself.

I was in kindergarten.

I read and reread Go, Dog, Go to my mother with the same enthusiastic excitement of the very first time.

So often that I can still recite it by heart.

To this day, I carry this embedded zeal for learning through books.

Books became and continue to be for me an ever present life passion.

With school starting soon, my wish for kindergarten children is that their first ever ‘read alone’ book will begin a passionate life legacy of loving books.
